A classic novel which was on the best-seller lists of the day, but is mostly forgotten now. It presaged
a familiar theme from later works, that heroism is found in faithful performance of important work by common, and in
some way, simple workmen. That loyalty to one's beliefs is more important than position or power. Around the Bend and
Trustee From the Tool Room follow the pattern.
And Mr Honey gets the girl in the end. Oh well, it is fiction after
all.
How the studios transported this book into the later film, is beyond me. Jimmy Stewart could never be Mr
Honey, (perhaps Donald Pleasance would have been closer, in appearance and diffidence?), and the total removal of any
reference to automatic writing removed a main theme of the novel, that appearances and conforming to conceptions of
normality don't make the better man.

PS Quality is only average. Some tracks are a bit low in volume and I
know one part flips over to the other side. It was recorded off very old tapes and was for my own use. But it is very
difficult to find now days although I'm sure you could get better quality from audible but not the Robin Bailey
edition.
